The Heirloom Sweater

You learn a lot from grief. Most of it is not obvious. Some days fly by, others stop you in your tracks. Like when I saw my dad’s sweater in his closet after he died. I grabbed it. Pushed it up to my nose. It was like he was there with me again.

I didn’t realize at the time that I would create The Heirloom Sweater, inspired by stumbling upon my dad’s sweater, and a series of remarkable coincidences where all of a sudden I was on a mission to create the world’s most loved sweater.

That’s when I realized we needed to make a sweater. 

It had to be soft, warm, light, breathable, timeless and make you feel amazing. We needed to make a sweater using Scottish Cashmere yarn, as a nod to my late father’s heritage, and make it to order in New York where I’m based. I wanted to make the perfect sweater for people to wear and to look after for life. It’s sold in a protective bag to store in when it’s not on.

Also, I wanted people to be able to wear it as often as they like and put it in the washing machine, which you can because of Active Cashmere technology. But please never put our sweaters in the dryer. Always hang dry, use a drying rack, or towel dry. 

We’re starting to reach more people, especially those looking to find a really meaningful gift for dad — to have him live in, around people he loves, enjoying the most important times being around family and friends, really connecting, feeling and looking good.

This started as a passion project to keep my dad alive and close in a way. I wanted that for other people. For the current owner, a life of wearing a beautiful sweater made with love, and for the next owner, a continued legacy.
